All my buddies are sick, myself included! My friends Gabby and Carlo just got better recently. My friends Mon and Oliver are still sick. This sucks. Is this like a super bug? I sure hope not. I wouldn't wanna get H1N1 or something.

Southville Suspsends Classes due to H1N1

My friend Anna who studies there just told me that classes will be suspsended due to there was a student that contracted the virus today. Classes have been suspended til July 1.

I just hope the poor student doesn't get expelled because of getting the flu. If you guys don't remember, I made a blog about the fact that the School's Administration made a decision to expell students found to have H1N1. Sucks for him.

Classes have been suspended all over the metropolitan area now. DOH says there's a low level out break here in Parañaque. WTF. Can't they contain this thing?

DOH announces Low-level Outbreak of H1N1

MANILA, Philippines - Health Secretary Francisco Duque III confirmed yesterday there is now a “low-level community outbreak” of Influenza A(H1N1) virus in Metro Manila, even as 28 individuals were added to the list of cases in the country, raising the total to 473.

Duque said those affected by the low-level outbreak are mostly areas in Quezon City, Parañaque City and Manila.

But he clarified that there is no “huge clustering of cases” in any community in the metropolis.

He maintained that a majority of the schools with confirmed cases were situated in these cities.

Looks like there isn't any stopping this flu. And since most places have already run out of flu vaccine. There really isn't much hope. Let's just pray that this Swine Flu doesn't evolve much further than it already has. It's already been announced that there's outbreaks here in our city of Parañaque. Crap!

First H1N1 Death in Asia and in the Philippines

Turns out that the first H1N1 death in Asia has come from our country. And at the same time, the 49 year old woman who had a bad heart that got sick wasn't just any regular woman. She was a staff employee of the Congress. Now Congress will close for the meantime. There have been 2 confirmed infected with the Swine flu out of 3000 employees in the House of Congress.

First Swine Flu Death in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Officials say the Philippines has its first swine flu-related death _ a 49-year-old woman who died from congestive heart failure but who also tested positive for the swine flu virus.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III says the woman's chronic heart disease was aggravated by severe pneumonia. She started to have flu-like symptoms such as dry cough, fever, chills and difficulty in breathing two days before her death on June 19.

A throat swab from the woman revealed she was infected with the A(H1N1) virus.

Duque says post-autopsy findings disclose that the death was caused by "congestive heart failure secondary to acute myocardial infarction aggravated by severe pneumonia either bacterial, viral or both."

That's some scary stuff. Let's hope it was just her bad heart that did her in. I wouldn't wanna get sick then die because of some flu from bad pork I ate. Nyahahahaha. =D

H1N1 in Laguna School

MANILA, Philippines -- Classes at a public school in Laguna were suspended after six students were suspected to be infected with the Influenza A(H1N1) flu virus.

He said officials decided to temporarily defer classes after the six students manifested influenza-like symptoms. Confirmed A(H1N1) cases in the country have reached more than 400, health officials reported.

Darn, this virus just keeps spreading. Now it's in Sta. Rosa Central School.

Six students were found to have the Swine Flu. Classes have been suspended since the 18th of June. Classes will resume on the 29th.

Makati has confirmed 6 H1N1 Cases

MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) Three residents and three students of Mapua Institute of Technology campus in Makati City are now confirmed cases of the Influenza A(H1N1) virus, the city government announced on Monday. Makati public information office chief Joey Salgado said two Filipino residents of San Miguel Village and a child from Barangay Cembo have been hit by the contagious flu virus, based on their communications with the Department of Health.

Meanwhile the three students from the Mapua annex on Gil Puyat, though not Makati residents, reportedly acquired the disease from mingling with affected De La Salle University students.

Looks like the dreaded influenza's spreading like wildfire. And I noticed that it's always in schools that a lot of the cases are found. Are college students more prone to the disease than most people?

Swine flu, A pandemic WHO

GENEVA – Swine flu is now formally a pandemic, a declaration by U.N. health officials that will speed vaccine production and spur government spending to combat the first global flu epidemic in 41 years.

Thursday's announcement by the World Health Organization doesn't mean the virus is any more lethal _ only that its spread is considered unstoppable.

Since it was first detected in late April in Mexico and the United States, swine flu has reached 74 countries, infecting nearly 29,000 people. Most who catch the bug have only mild symptoms and don't need medical treatment.

WHO chief Dr. Margaret Chan made the long-awaited declaration after the U.N. agency held an emergency meeting with flu experts and said she was moving to phase 6 _ the agency's highest alert level _ which means a pandemic is under way.

"The world is moving into the early days of its first influenza pandemic in the 21st century," Chan said in Geneva.

This doesn't bode very well worldwide. Not good, not good at all. This just reeks bad pig farming. Just like the bird flu a few years ago. Chickens mixed together with other animals and getting sick from all the other animals are sick in the first place. Bad farming, lack of proper know-how and training. There's already 1,700 cases of it worldwide. Which is shocking. The spread of this disease is just unstoppable. This is a very sad day for man.

DOH says Dengue is Deadlier than H1N1

The global case fatality rate for A(H1N1) is 0.55 percent of the 25,288 confirmed cases in 73 reporting countries.

However, despite of the ballooning figure, DOH Undersecretary Mario Villaverde said there is still no outbreak of the virus in the Philippines. “There’s no outbreak because we can still trace cases. We can still find the index case and their contacts.”

DOH records showed that “some of these cases were related to the cluster of schools that have already voluntarily suspended their classes due to the novel virus.”

These schools are De La Salle University (DLSU)-Taft with a total of 15 cases; DLSU-St. Benilde College with two cases; Ateneo de Manila High School with three cases; St. Andrew School in Parañaque with one case and FEU-East Avenue College with two cases.

Looks like my hometown Parañaque is no exception to the H1N1 virus. Heh. Being that the darned airport is in Pque! So we should actually be ground zero to most of these infections since they come from overseas. But so far since there's only been one reported case of the H1N1 virus here, that means that our airport officials have been doing a spectacular job.

Southville will EXPEL H1N1 infected Students

There will be a quarantine check in the school. Once found that you are infected, you're expelled from school.

I mean what the hell is the school thinking? Shouldn't they just worry about the student's welfare rather than reacting harshly to something they cannot prevent from happening?

It's bad enough the school has a bad sense for fashion, I mean talk about mint green and purple for a uniform. *LOL* Anyways, back to the topic. There are other ways of fixing this problem than just kicking out the students with the virus. They should just shut down the school first before anything. Get everyone to privately check their condition and just stay home once found positive with the virus. I know I'm sounding a little too idealistic to actually think that everyone would actually do something like that. But it sure is still a lot better than what that school has actually thought of.

Rumor that Southmall is Quarantined, H1N1

There's this rumor circulating through text that there was a patient found by Casa Medica to have the Virus. So just to be on the safe side, guys, don't go to any places that would have a alot of people gathering in one place. Whenever possible just stay home and keep to yourselves.

Looks like this influenza thing is getting serious. It's reaching the South now. I don't like this. I don't like this at all. I know what I just said is paranoid. But you know how it is, keep yourselves safe first ask questions later.

A gag on H1N1 Flu Virus

My friend mark sent me this picture. Hehe. Freaky looking thing. Darn thing looks so real, huh? He said you'll end up looking like this if you get the virus. Looks like a cross between a pig and a baby. By the way, it's fake. Just to make sure you guys aren't thinking this is some weird scientific experiment.

School Trip Cancelled due to H1N1

My friend's class just cancelled their trip to Singapore due to the H1N1 Virus scare. I heard it was a course requirement for them to go.

So a lot of them are actually worrying about whether to still to go or not. Almost everyone already booked flights to Singapore, hotel rooms even. So it'll take a bitch and a half to get that money back. Sure DLS-CSB will be give back the 9 grand they shelled out for the CG Overdrive Expo. This has gotta be a lot of bad luck for a lot of students for sure.

DLSU turns into Ghost Town

DLSU in Manila closes down due to 3rd H1N1 case according to the Department of Health. DLSU Manila will remain closed until June 14 according to GMA7.

This has got to mean great news for students wishing for no classes specially due to this bad weather. LOL. But anyways, this sounds pretty bad. All these kids and young adults going into these large public places unknowingly getting infected by this Swine Influenza.

I've heard from my good friend that's from DLS-College of Saint Benilde that his school (my Alma Mater by the way, just had to get it out there! hehe) hasn't even closed it's doors even if DLSU Taft is just right there! I mean, what's my school thinking? Really?!?!?? It's just not right. So CSB just has to wait for an infection from across the street to get into our campus to make the rest of us sick before they take action? Jeez!
